Hog Ring Pliers
Hog ring pliers are a specialty type of pliers. Their main
purpose is to
attach a hog ring or fastener to a wire or cable. These pliers have a
groove molded into the jaws that holds the hog-ring. The hog ring
itself usually has pointed ends to poke through whatever it's being
attached to.
Hog Ring Pliers are used extensively in the fencing industry and also
in the automotive industry on upholstery for almost all domestic and
foreign vehicles. I have also heard of them being used for securing
clips
on the end of numerous types of sausage (sounds weird but whatever
works right?).
The
hog ring pliers do come in various sizes and dimensions. Most are 45
degrees or straight. They are made to grip, hold, and mold a hog ring
for closure around whatever piece of material you are working on. The
handles are usually sping loaded so that you can hold the hog ring in
place easily. Some also come with cushion grip handles making it more
comfortable to work with if you are using these pliers all day long.
I
have also seen an auto feed set of pliers from Bostich. It is manual,
of course, but you can load the hog rings into it and go to town. If
you are going to be using this daily or for a job that's going to take
months, I'd definitely think about buying that type of hog ring pliers.
