Snap Ring Pliers
Snap ring pliers are used to secure snap rings in place. Snap rings are used in a variety of circumstances. They are fasteners that are used to position a component on a shaft or in a bore.
The ring type
can be internal or external. Internal retaining rings are
used
inside a housing or bore. External rings fit over a shaft or
pin.
Design units for snap rings can be English or metric.
There are a
variety different types of snap ring pliers. Most are steel with
plastic grips. Replacement tips are often included and are usually
straight, 90 degrees or 45 degrees. Some of these pliers only handle
one type of snap ring (internal or external), however, some are
multi-functional in that they are literally equal to 10 different types
of pliers. Of course those pliers are more expensive but quite worth it
if you're a true mechanic.
